face inset tool in blender 2.72
today we are gonna see how to use face inset tool in blender


here i have a scene with a plane ,i just subdivided by pressing down W and select subdivide,
on the left panel select the number if cuts i set to 20

now, with everything selected ,enable face selection and by pressing I and move the mouse to choose the width of face inset

we can extrude it by region as seen in the picture above or we can extrude it individual faces

by pressing F6 in the pop-up click the checkbox individual, as shown in the image below.

this is very helpful for exemple with this i will create a grill ,just pressing down control+i to invert selection then delete the faces inside and add a solidify modifier to add thickness, as shown below
